Title: Energy-Efficient Resource Allocation for Wireless Multimedia Systems

Speaker: Prof. Ai-Chun Pang

Affiliation: National Taiwan University

Abstract:
With the rapid growth of data communications and popularity of battery-powered mobile devices, reducing the energy consumption of mobile devices is a critical concern for increasing battery lifetime and awareness of environmental responsibility. Specifically, mobile users have become increasingly addicted to multimedia applications which are extremely downlink intensive. It is very essential and challenging to reduce the energy consumption of battery-powered mobile devices when they receive downlink data. This talk will address energy-efficient downlink power and channel allocation in wireless systems, where the objective is to minimize the total energy consumption of mobile devices for data reception. We will present several approximation algorithms for the optimization problem with the consideration of different multimedia layer-encoding techniques and energy-consumption metrics. Some numerical examples and interesting insights will be shown based on experimental results.
